Mary Webster
fine art painter
I graduated from the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts and Tufts University with a diploma and an MFA. Faced with the question every artist faces, "How can I make a living as an artist?", I chose to be a muralist and decorative painter. For more than twenty years, I've had an interesting and diverse career primarily in Boston, Cape Cod, Nantucket, & Martha's Vineyard. I've painted miles and miles of commissioned work. It's been a wonderful journey and continues to be a challenging and interesting way to make a living.
However, a few years ago, I started getting a yearning - a little voice in my ear that said it was time to make personal work too. I began to paint when I wasn't painting! I stole away into the studio to explore personal inspirations. Many of my paintings are "still lifes", where I lose myself in shadow, detail and light. Most pay tribute to the artists of the Golden Age of painting. I also delight in creating animal icons, dripping in gold leaf and strutting their quirky nature.
I recently relocated to the beautiful city of Asheville. I hope to continue to paint murals, decorative paint, and create new personal work inspired by my new surroundings!
