The infrastructure, geometry, color, and texture of a flower – any flower – is simply magnificent. How is it that these tiny masterpieces emerge from dirt?

I fall in love with every flower I photograph. The delicate and ethereal beauty of each one reminds me of my grandmothers, both of whom possessed the same charms. And then some. I photograph western North Carolina-grown flowers in my home studio in Asheville. I pluck from tailgate markets, favorite shops, and when I’m lucky, directly from the ground where they flourish. Flower farmers in this area simply delight me. I include the tenacious horticulturists at Biltmore Estate. I’ve had the privilege of getting to know many of them during my career working at the estate. I dedicate my captures to their hard and caring work.

I am a native of Asheville, and I’ve been a photographer for three decades.
