Batton Clayworks

Artistic, decorative and functional pottery for everywhere around your home

Ann and Sandy Batton are a husband and wife team, making pottery together since 2003. Items are all handmade in small batch form, without the use of heavy machinery. Their studio offers a family friendly setting and shopping gallery, and is located in Kenilworth, directly adjacent to downtown Asheville and The Biltmore Village.

Sandy is from the tiny town of Port Gibson, Mississippi and Ann grew up in the suburbs of FairFax, Virginia. Along the way and a few years after graduating college, they met in Asheville, North Carolina in the year 2000.  They started making pottery together in a tiny, unheated 10 x 10 tool shed - a wheel, an electric kiln, a table and shelves were squeezed into the space. They stored clay and glazes in the kitchen, so they would not freeze. Firing was also a challenge because they couldn’t not run the kiln and stove simultaneously. As their relationship and ideas blossomed, so did the business. By 2005 they were off and running. Now, with two children and a bigger studio, they continue to grow their collection and their business.
